Job Description

One of our clients, a family office for a preeminent Tampa Bay family with a long history of operations and philanthropy within the community is searching for a Chief Financial Officer.  Their investments include extensive real estate holdings, as well as operational entities, the latter of which includes an exclusive private golf course. The ideal candidate will have both the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, as well as a background in public accounting.  The focus of the position will include all aspects of transactional accounting, financial reporting, business analytics, financial systems, internal controls, and cash management, as well as the ability to flourish within their positive, collaborative culture and effectively manage a team. Chief Financial Officer Job Duties:

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare and present timely and accurate financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to the senior management and family members.
    • Conduct detailed analysis of financial data to provide insights and recommendations for strategic decision-making.
  • Accounting Management:
    • Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
    • Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions and adherence to accounting principles and regulations.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance:
    • Establish and maintain a robust system of internal controls and checks & balances to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements.
    • Conduct periodic audits and reviews to assess the effectiveness of internal controls and financial processes.
  • Cash Flow Management:
    • Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the availability of funds for operational needs and investment opportunities.
    • Develop strategies to optimize cash management and liquidity while minimizing financial risks.
  • Financial Planning and Strategy:
    • Collaborate with family members and leadership to develop financial plans, investment strategies, and long-term financial goals.
    • Provide insights and recommendations on potential investment opportunities, risk management, and portfolio diversification.
  • Tax Planning and Compliance:
    • Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure compliance with tax regulations and implement effective tax planning strategies.
    • Stay updated on tax law changes and assess their impact on the family office's financial strategies and operations.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify and assess financial risks, including market risks, credit risks, and operational risks.
    • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to protect the family office's assets and investments.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Supervise and mentor a team of finance professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure the team's effectiveness and professional growth.
    • Foster a collaborative and results-driven work environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Relationship Management:
    • Foster strong relationships with external stakeholders, including financial institutions, outside accounting firms, legal advisors, and regulatory authorities.
    • Represent the family office in financial discussions, negotiations, and transactions, maintaining a professional and trustworthy image.
  • Ad-hoc Projects and Special Initiatives:
    • Lead and participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by the family members, leveraging financial expertise to support strategic initiatives and business growth.

Chief Financial Officer – Family Office Skills/Qualifications:

  • CPA required
  • Master’s in Accounting or MBA preferred
  • Family Office and/or Real Estate experience strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of proven experience in accounting & financial management
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Deadline and detail-oriented
  • Impeccable integrity, confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to partner with a diverse group of stakeholder, and a high level of written and oral communication skills
