Controller
Job Description
Our Bradenton/Sarasota client is creating a new leadership position due to this small company’s continued growth and has asked for exclusive assistance. The Controller will assist with all areas of accounting, financial reporting, HR, and office administration and supervise a small team responsible for these areas. This new hire needs to have an internal-service oriented mindset, a knack for positively motivating others while holding them accountable, a take-charge attitude, an interest and ability to strategize with ownership on financial information and direction, and a sound ability to make critical decisions!
Controller Benefits and Compensation:
- In-office position
- Highly visible role throughout the entire company
- Compensation target $115,000 - $120,000
Controller Job Duties:
- Serve in a hands-on leadership role responsible for for all activities in accounting, HR, administration and able to interface well with operational employees
- Responsible for all transactional accounting including bank and account reconciliations, AR, AP, fixed assets, payroll, cash management, month end close and financial reporting
- Responsible for HR files, insurance, employee relations
- Implement and verify adherence to policies, procedures, internal controls
- Manage and participate with ownership in budget preparation and related forecasts
- Prepare and evaluate variance analysis and other financial analyses
- Prepare financial statements and other information for internal and external parties
- Manage issuance of annual audited financial reports
- Together with outside CPA firm, prepare, provide and/or file all taxes (income, sales, property, etc)
- Participate in strategy commentary with owners
- Supervise and mentor staff of 5 in accounting and administration
- Provides leadership to the team and performs all normal supervisory functions, including hiring, training, appraisal, counseling, and discipline.
- Other projects or tasks as required
Controller Skills/Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting required
- CPA a plus
- Bilingual Spanish a plus
- 8+ years of like-kind accounting experience in a smaller company environment
- Service-oriented mindset for both internal and external purposes
- Strong leadership and people development skills with the ability to evaluate team, identify gaps, and make necessary personnel decisions
- Someone who is comfortable with both rolling up their sleeves and delegating
