Staff Accountant
Job Description
Staff Accountant | Tampa Bay, FL | Competitive Salary + Full Benefits
Join a lean, collaborative accounting team at a small-to-mid-market company where your full-cycle accounting skills, attention to detail, and process-improvement instincts will be put to work in a role with real variety and genuine visibility. This is a hands-on position built around the fundamentals — journal entries, reconciliations, fixed assets, and month-end close — and it is designed for someone who enjoys digging into processes, takes pride in clean work, and wants to grow their skills in a supportive, team-oriented environment. You will work closely with an experienced team that is collaborative by design and invested in doing things the right way, including maintaining strong internal controls and a continuous improvement mindset. The role offers meaningful exposure across the full balance sheet, international accounting, multi-currency transactions, and tax support — a breadth that is hard to find at this level. If you bring 3+ years of solid accounting experience, a strong grasp of the fundamentals, and the self-starter energy to contribute from day one, this is a great place to build your career.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform bank account reconciliations across multiple accounts and currencies as part of the monthly close cycle.
- Reconcile fixed asset and intangible asset accounts; record journal entries with proper supporting documentation for a clean audit trail.
- Perform monthly flux analysis on various accounts and cost centers; prepare complex account analyses for monthly allocation journal entries.
- Analyze monthly revenue and cost of sales accounts for accurate posting and proper revenue recognition application; coordinate any necessary adjustment entries.
- Assist the tax and compliance function with domestic and international ledger postings and related support.
- Aid in domestic and international tax return preparation as needed.
- Prepare supporting documentation for internal and external audit requests across domestic and international operations.
- Assist in the annual budgeting process and support monthly forecasting activities.
- Review AP bills and expense reports for proper coding to forecasts.
- Collaborate with multiple teams across the organization to provide accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Ensure all accounting activities comply with GAAP and IFRS; maintain and update standard operating procedures on an ongoing basis.
- Support continual process improvement initiatives while upholding proper internal controls.
- Perform special projects and ad hoc requests from management as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred — candidates without a degree will be considered with 5+ years of relevant accounting experience; minimum 3 years required for degreed candidates.
- Solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles — debits, credits, accruals, and balance sheet relationships — or a demonstrated eagerness to learn.
- Experience in a smaller to mid-market company environment.
- Exposure to the full balance sheet across multiple account types.
- Advanced Excel skills — pivot tables, lookups, and data manipulation used regularly.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-starter mentality with genuine curiosity about how processes work and how they can be improved.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines consistently.
- Team-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Multi-currency and foreign exchange accounting experience.
- Familiarity with cloud-based accounting, CRM, or tax compliance software platforms.
- Understanding of IFRS in addition to GAAP.
Why you'll love working here
- A lean, collaborative team where your contributions are visible and your growth is supported by experienced accounting leaders who are invested in developing the people around them.
- Broad exposure across the full balance sheet, international operations, multi-currency accounting, and tax support — far more variety than most Staff Accountant roles offer.
- A company that values experience and trainability over credentials alone — the right person with the right foundation and the right attitude will thrive here regardless of their educational background.
- A straightforward, one-interview process that respects your time and moves quickly.
- A balanced work week with predictable busy periods and a culture that does not demand excessive overtime outside of close.
- Competitive base salary plus a comprehensive benefits package.
